Lt Gen GS Buch Memorial Lecture was organised on February 10, 2017 in the famed Pavate Hall at 6.00 pm. Lt Gen HS Panag, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), former GOC-in-C Northern and Central Command and Member, Armed Forces Tribunal was the keynote speaker. He gave his talk on leadership. Elaborating the role of a leader, he said a leader is always under constant scrutiny. People look to find chinks in his armour. The leader and the led are complementary to each other. Quoting Rudyard Kipling, he said: ‘The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.’ No matter what you do, you require the background of education, he said. Wider reading gives an edge to a leader. 10,000 hrs of work between the age of 18-30 years provides a quantum leap in your career growth. A leader should have clearly defined goals. Failures must not discourage him. The bearing, physical fitness, honesty and uprightness and integrity (integrated personality) are a must for a leader. He spelt out 4 Es of John Welch- Edge, Energy, Enthusiasm and Execution. Will is more important than intellect. Intellect without will is useless. He recommended A Message to Garcia by Elbert Hubbard for all PPS students. He took queries from students as well.
