PPS celebrates 75th Independence Day

The 75th Independence Day was celebrated at The Punjab Public School, Nabha with great fervour and enthusiasm. Boys and girls gathered at the Headmaster’s Green quite early in the morning. The proceedings got underway with the arrival of the chief guest Mr Ajay Singh at the Headmaster’s Green. All the three wings of the NCC were in attendance. Mr Singh hoisted the national tri-colour to the delight of everyone present and inspected the guard of honour. The scene shifted to the Pavate Hall. Akshima and Prithvi expressed their thoughts on the relevance of the day in English and Punjabi respectively. Kanishk Goyal recited Mai Fauji Hun, a poem composed by Mr Shahid Ahmed, Hindi Master at PPS. Two patriotic songs-Vande Matram and Aye Mere Payare Vatan by the students of the school choir lent a new feel to the atmosphere. Speaking on the occasion, Headmaster Mr Ajay Singh exhorted the youth to rise to the occasion when the virus is wreaking havoc globally. We need to be extremely cautious as far as the unseen virus is concerned which has brought nations to their knees, he said. He reiterated the need to reflect on power and responsibility which are inextricably linked. It was followed by Independence Quiz conceived and curated by Mr Anshul Verma. It had three rounds on Indian National Movement (Early Phase), Gandhian Phase and Audio/Visual. There was a stiff competition between Beas and Sutlej with both the houses tied at 20 points each at the end of the final round. A sporty tie-breaker finally decided the outcome in favour of Sutlejians with 30 points with Beas, Ravi and Jumna trailing behind with 20, 15 and 10 points respectively. Deputy Headmaster Dr Gurvinder Kaur and Bursar Dr Ankur Samuel Birkett were also present.
