The Punjab Public School celebrated its Foundation Day today. It was on this day in 1961 that Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India formally inaugurated the school building. In fact, the school started functioning in 1960. Padma Shri JK Kate was the founder Headmaster who raised the institution brick by brick over the years. The primary aim behind starting the school was to provide quality public school education to the deserving children of the ex-servicemen, serving personnel of the defense forces and civilians. The guiding force in the opening of this school was Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab. The school has produced stalwarts in varied fields over the years. As many as six headmasters nurtured the school after Mr Kate voluntarily stepped down. They include Mr Atma Ram Gupta, Gp Capt AJS Grewal, Col (Dr) DS Khera, Mr MS Bedi, Commodore IL Syal (Retd)and Dr Jagpreet Singh. Mr Ajay Singh is the current Headmaster of the school.
In a brief ceremony organised for the purpose, the staff and students gathered at the main entrance to the Kairon Block. Deputy Headmaster Dr Gurvinder Kaur, Bursar Dr Ankur Samuel Birkett and Dean of Academics Ms Ravinder Kaur were present on the occasion. In a special assembly in the Pavate Hall in the afternoon, Mr Ajay Singh called upon the student community to live up to the ideals of the founders and work for the glory of the school.
