The Indian Air Force officially came into being on October 8, 1932. Its first flight took off on April 1, 1933. It was earlier known as Royal Air Force. The prefix “Royal” was done away with after India was declared a Republic in 1950. Today Indian Air Force is 42-squadron strong but only 31 of them are functional. Currently, we depend on Russia, France, England, Brazil, America, Israel, Ukraine, Germany, and Spain for our security needs other than doing everything possible to be self-reliant. Tejas fighter aircraft is an example. The Indian Air Force exhibited unparalleled valour in 1962, 1965 and 1971.
